The exhibition focuses on African and Afro-Caribbean personalities who have lived in Britain, and have contributed in different ways to the British experience. This is not an attempt to separate Black British culture from dominant British culture, but rather to say that they are both inter-link - "Britain's history is intertwined with the history of Africa, Asia and other regions of the world, which goes back hundreds of years."

UNION BLACKS has had solo exhibitions in London at Borders UK, Centreprise, Fairfield Halls in Croydon, and the Black Cultural Archives. It has also featured in group exhibitions at the National Portrait Gallery, Beatrice Royal Museum, Gallery Kaleidoscope, Moving Here and on the BBC Race and Gender documentary. The flags and some portraits have been on book covers and as a backdrop for events.
